European Design Influences Meets Rocky Mountain Region

There’s a little taste of Europe coming out of northwest Kansas and it comes in the form of fenestration! Advantage Architectural Woodwork (AAW) is a friend of ours here at AE Building Systems and we love seeing the amazing windows and doors they create. Working with them is a unique opportunity to get superior design and superior products that many don’t even realize are right in our region!

Who is Advantage Architectural Woodwork?

AAW is a small, family-owned operation but they’re doing some really BIG things in the world of architecture. As one of the only American made sources for European fenestration products, they offer something that is often not seen in the United States. They produce some of the highest performing and highest quality windows and doors you can buy in the world today like lift/slide doors, tilt/turn windows, and swing doors. And it’s just a hop, skip, and a jump from us in Colorado!

AAW is run by Bob Holloway who embraced a love for woodworking at age 14 and pursued it into college. After graduating with a degree in Wood Technology, he attended a workshop on European window and door design, which featured technology superior to anything commonly available in the United States. He brought this knowledge to his home and wood shop in Kansas. Bob and his team have partnered with Smartwin, a German company, and are now premier producers of the highest-performing wood and wood-clad windows and doors made to passive house standards you can find today.

Passive House Windows: Elevating Performance and Sustainability

While European-style fenestration can offer some really beautiful designs and sleek looks, the real beauty is found in the energy efficiency! AAW is on a mission to build awareness of the use of energy-efficient windows and doors to make an elevated and more sustainable living experience. All of this is in line with Passive House design, which is so common in Europe, and has just as many benefits here in the States. AAW’s products actually not only work to meet the standards, but also exceed the criteria required for low-energy building.

Our team has had the pleasure of working with Advantage Architectural Woodwork on multiple occasions. We’ve worked with them on projects with Smithworks out of Crested Butte, Allen-Guerra Architecture out of Frisco, Design Build Steamboat, and Bauen Build out of Boulder. We love seeing sustainable, energy-efficient design in practice, especially on projects in our own region.
