As part of Todd`s home retrofit, he has been able to completely cut off his gas consumption. One key to achieving this goal was installing an outdoor compressor that acts as a heat exchanger.
In the winter months, when it is in heating mode, the compressor takes the surrounding air and moves it across the heat exchanger, pulling out the heat from the air and pushing it into the house.
Through this process, Todd has been able to cap off his gas line and improve the quality of his indoor air.

When it comes to a Passive House approach, we care about air infiltration a lot. These junctures are usually where most of our inefficiencies come into play. Therefore, we need to make sure we pay special attention to these areas to ensure that we can maintain an efficient and effective structure.
We don’t care just for the sake of being more efficient, but also because if not done correctly, air infiltration can lead to other future problems like condensation, warping, and other long-term effects that can damage a structure.

The Hastings Mesa House is a Colorado mountain haven with a 360-degree view of the San Juan ⛰️ on 40 acres. Due to the cold climate, the homeowners were concerned about preserving and maintaining comfort.
The wall assembly was designed with double-wall 2x4 framing to create a 12” deep wall cavity. It was filled with a blended system of blown foam and high-density infill (flash and fill), which brings the walls to R-58. Don`t miss the third photo for wall depth.
The house was designed with large Alpen windows on south and east-facing elevations to maximize daylight and solar gain while maximizing the 💚 views. It has an HRV system, which includes bathroom and kitchen returns and a recirculating range hood. BTB Construction and Consulting utilized Siga Fentrim to help with air sealing and put in a radiant floor heat.

We were onsite 👋 for this window delivery—seeing the start of the installation at this house in Boulder, CO. The folks from @advantagewoodwork delivered these beautiful Smartwin windows and custom doors from Kansas to make this residence airtight and energy-efficient.
It`s pretty cool how adding windows can really jazz up the vibe ⚡️ and momentum 🚀 of any building project.
